      Hi! I am writing you today to find out a little bit of information on a British Historical figure: the Earl of Sandwich. I do realize that there were a few different Earl of Sandwich’s, which only further dilutes my attempts to find out the particular bit of information I am looking for.

     First off, I know it is well known that the Earl of Sandwich “invented” the sandwich. But again, I am not sure specifically which particular Earl was responsible. But more importantly, my grandfather has been telling me since I was a little child that the Earl of Sandwich came up with the idea for Sandwiches because he was a huge orgy man. Apparently the orgy inspired him to create what my grandfather calls a “culinary” orgy. \

      So I guess my main reason for writing is to find out whether or not this is true. Did the earl of Sandwich partake in orgies, and if so, which Earl was it?

      I find this all a little unbelievable; the idea that British Royalty would partake in such lewd and lascivious acts as an orgy is beyond me. Also, I hardly think that a sandwich could be the cuisine equivalent of an orgy. To me, a buffet or even a stew is more apt in comparison.

     Anywhoo, please get back to me as soon as possible. My grandfather has promised me a great deal worth in inheritance if I can prove him wrong, so your reply will be of great help.
